Business Astrology
2008-08-12 By John M. Hansen, AMAFA Accountants, attorneys and personnel managers usually have no idea of the many benefits that astrology can bring to their work. While few practitioners of law and accountancy are interested in these arts, understanding the astrological situation can be of immense benefit to the members of these professions. One of the most rewarding and immediately beneficial aspects of the application of astrology to all of the professions is in the process of hiring workers, accepting new clients, forming corporations and taking legal actions of all kinds.Hiring Workers Almost every store or office has people working in it who are neither the owners nor the co-owners of the business. In some cases the business owner hires these people, while in other cases they are hired by a personnel manager. Larger companies usually have an involved, complex, multi-stage process for hiring new employees. Hiring for civil service positions is an example of this. In all cases, no matter how simple or complex the hiring process, there comes a time when the applicant is actually hired. The horoscope of this time determines the nature of the worker’s career with the company. It is occasionally possible for the company to time stamp the form accepting the employee into the company. As long as the time on the time stamp is correct, a decent chart can be made of the event. In some cases, such as induction into the police force, the military service or a few other occupations, the person is not actually a member of the organization until he or she has sworn an oath of office. The time of the oath of office will show the chart of the person as he or she relates to the employing organization. Of course, it is possible to avoid destructive and negative employees by simply adjusting the time and dates on which the oath of office is given. The same is true of fitting new citizens into the country, where the time of the oath of citizenship is indicative of the kind of citizen that the person will become. Although the exact time of hiring may not be known, the date of hiring is usually known. From that date alone, other major events in the career of the employee may be discerned. A solar chart, although rightly held in disdain by most astrologers, is far better than no chart at all. Comparing the solar chart of when the person is hired with the solar chart of the his or her natus will yield some information as to how much the new employee will like his or her job. That was the technique which the famous Swiss astrologer Karl Kraft used to fit executive employees of a Swiss department store to their managerial tasks. It was in the position of advising the owner of the department store that he originally earned his reputation as a skilled astrologer. As in all comparison charts, adverse aspects between the Sun and Moon of the two charts are to be avoided. Adverse aspects between the Mars of the employee and the Venus of the company should also be avoided, as this shows that the employee will act in a way that will be disharmonious, or even destructive to the company. Of course, there are some rather obvious prohibitions against placing an advertisement for employees, or hiring anyone. The most restrictive of these is Mars retrograde. When Mars is retrograde, it is necessary that the company do its best to struggle on without hiring any new people. Those hired when Mars is retrograde will either not stay long or will prove to be unsatisfactory. Indeed, they may, often unknowingly, do the company serious harm. Another example of making positive use of Mars retrograde is a senior loan officer in a bank who takes his vacation when Mars is retrograde, allowing the remaining loan officers in his institution to suffer because of the many bad decisions that are made during that time. Accepting New Clients The process of accepting a new client by a firm is very similar to that of hiring a new employee. You need to know if the client, whether firm or individual, will harm your organization or if he or she will be of benefit to you. The attraction of a new client who supposedly can provide you with many billable hours is hard to overcome, but the large client must be looked at as closely as the occasional small, or charity, client. In either case, the effect of the client on the firm will never be neutral. They will either be of benefit to the firm or they will bring adversity through either financial loss or bad publicity. It is always worthwhile to examine the new client as closely as you would examine a new employee. Some clients may not be beneficial, while other clients are very worthwhile. A good client who refers other clients is always very beneficial, but it is still a matter of who the client is and whether accepting the client will enhance or degrade the reputation of the firm. Astrology can provide a cushion that may not eliminate all problems, but will certainly soften the blow, deflecting many of them from the business by keeping away the negative or harmful client. I will caution the astrologer that many clients, being only partial believers in astrology, will not accept what they are told in this way. Most clients of astrologers are very anxious to add another firm to the list of those they serve. They will be far more anxious to have the new client than they will be to determine what their relationship with that client will be over time. Clients and customers are the lifeblood of every business. In mass-market businesses, like retail stores, clients either purchase or not, depending on whether they are attracted to the merchandise and sales staff. In the professions, the reputation of the professional practitioner or that of the firm usually draws the client. Then it becomes a matter of whether the new client may be of benefit the firm. In many respects, approving a client is the same as hiring a new employee. The primary desire is to have a client that can afford to pay the fees you charge and who will fit in nicely with your organization. Thus, all of the major horary considerations before judgment must be applied: Mars must not be retrograde; the Moon must neither be void of course or in the via combusta; the client should best be accepted on the New Moon if it is at all possible to do so. Of course, on a more pragmatic level, the client should be forthcoming with all of the information that the professional organization will need in order for the astrologer to provide the best possible service. Many clients of professional firms have abandoned their former firms when questions have probed too deeply, or it seemed that embarrassing things were about to be revealed. Therefore, it is often judicious to inquire just why the client left his or her former firm. As with hiring an employee, the actual time of the client’s acceptance by the firm becomes the time for drawing the chart comparing the client to the firm. If there are squares in this chart between the Sun and Moon, or if there are squares between the Sun and Moon of the chart of the client and the chart of the firm, this is an assurance that there will be trouble ahead. It is now necessary to step back and do a rather full analysis to determine just what difficulties may emerge. Mergers, Making Loans, and Spending Large Sums of Money Before making any judgment or decision of this kind, the application of the horary astrological considerations before judgment to the time of any decision will always produce results that are more favorable to the firm. One bank found that by scheduling loan committee meetings when the Moon was neither void of course nor in the via combusta produced an immediate increase in the number of collectable loans. The astrologer can prepare a list of suitable dates and times. Using this list, the person who schedules the weekly loan committee meetings can easily arrange this. Neither the scheduler nor the members of the loan committee have to know that astrology was used to select the meeting date and time. Issuing purchase orders and contracts, especially major contracts, while ignoring the considerations before judgment is simply foolish. However it is far too frequently done. Beginning the marketing of a new product with Mars retrograde or the Moon void of course always guarantees the failure of the new product or line of goods. Promoting someone to a new position when Mars is retrograde is always risky. The person promoted is more likely to be unable to perform the job satisfactorily, or may leave the position unexpectedly. In either case, such promotions are to be avoided. Both the employer and the astrologer must realize that a promotion is very much the same astrologically as a new hire. When someone is promoted, there is a change in the person’s status, and there is a change in his or her relationship with coworkers. Thus, the time of appointment of an employee to a new position, which can easily be controlled, should be calculated to be in the best interests of fitting the person to the job. The goal is usually to make the person happy with his or her job, as well as with the company. The difficulties of making good decisions when the Moon is void of course are well known. This applies to hiring decisions as well as to any other decision. Applying this and also knowing the placement of the Moon (avoid the via combusta) to your hiring practices will usually be found to save you a great deal of difficulty with employees you otherwise would have to discharge. Hiring Problems Those workers hired when the Moon is in the via combusta are often found to have more than just exaggerated their abilities. If you do not check references, that alone will cause you difficulties over time. Should you have to hire someone with the Moon in the via combusta, you should carefully check his or her references, even as an afterthought. You may learn there is a substantial something missing you did not previously know about the person. Some people prefer to hire on the New Moon, which is a good idea in itself. Whether hiring on the New Moon or not, it is always a good idea to begin working at a new job on the New Moon. The sole exception is construction workers, who work from a union hiring hall. In this case, and in the case of a few other occupations with similar hiring practices, the employment begins with acceptance into the union, not with being assigned to any particular job. Following these astrological rules will not guarantee you will always hire the perfect employee, but it will keep you from hiring someone you will soon wish you had never seen. Adding some common sense and reference checking to these rules will generally guarantee a better employee for the small business. I have always been amazed at the number of businesses that did not check the references of their newly hired employees. Read archived articles |
